A man and a woman begin to move toward a mystical burial chamber as if they have seen it somewhere before. Their eyes meet as the model of a woman-Pharaoh comes to life and sings &ldquo;Every Story is a Love Story.</p> <p>We flash back thousands of years, as Egyptian soldiers celebrate their courage in the song &ldquo;Fortune Favors the Brave&rdquo;. Other soldiers enter with four native captives, including Aida, the daughter of the Nubian King. Aida snatches a sword to challenge the soldiers. Their captain, Radames, does not know that she is a princess, but he recognizes something special in her. And giants and peasants and Little Red Riding Hood. And, of course, a witch.</p> <p>We all know what woods can be like. . .especially when they are conceived first by the Brothers Grimm and brought to life in story and song by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. "Into the Woods" won three Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1987, and five Drama Desk Awards -- including Best Musical. When it was revived on Broadway in 2002, it won the Tony for Best Musical Revival.<br />Why? It has a hauntingly beautiful score. Moments of wisdom and wistfulness and wicked humor. And, yes, revelations that remind us all of what it means to be parents and children, as well as the value of the legacies we leave behind when we make our inevitable exits. Sure, the sources are fairy tales. . .but the story offers a probing, realistic depcition of life's complexities. What&rsquo;s left are places of public amenity which are heavily taxed by the UGC (Urine Good Company) with large amounts of graft going to Senator Fipp, Officer Lockstock and this trusty side kick Barrel (of course).</p> <p>Our hero Bobby Strong works for Penelope Pennywise who holds the public amenity franchise in the poorest, most disgusting part of town. Bobby is outraged when is father is arrested and taken to Urinetown for going and not paying the fee charged by Miss Pennywise. His outrage is temporarily challenged when he meets Hope, the daughter of UGC President, the resplendent Caldwell B. Cladwell.
